BEN PAULUS
Engineering Manager

“I love the people I work with, the time they have spent training and teaching me everything they know to help me succeed. I love the recognition when I succeed, yet the disappointment when I fail. I love that I can now take everything I have learned in the last 3 years and teach it to 20+ new engineers with little experience.”

Attended Pensacola Christian College, graduated in 2004 with a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. I started as a suspension engineer four months after graduation knowing very little about MORryde.

I’m glad I accepted. I love the wide variety of things I have done. I started in a drafting/quoting role, with time spent in programming and other areas. After a few months I was working on new product lines (cosmetic aluminum products). One year into my job I was given a potentially large project to develop a completely new product for a small customer. It was something we had never done before, yet only required a small step outside our current capabilities. I spent several weeks with a team of people developing a product to meet and exceed the customer’s expectations. Within 4 months we were producing this product, and within a year had almost $2 million in sales. I loved how I was involved in every step – design, costing, production, equipment sourcing, and eventually learning my ability to manage people and processes. I quickly took over management of the new “door division”, and within a few months was team leader of our specialty products and suspension engineering group. So within two years of graduation, I had 15 people reporting to me!

Then I was offered the position of plant manager of Plant 6. This last year was spent organizing a move from facilities, laying out a new plant, getting organized, and creating structure for Plant 6 to run effectively with minimal supervision. We are now shipping on time, averaging over 100% efficiency, and planning for future growth. All this and I am spending very little time at this point with production issues.

My most recent endeavor has been Engineering Manager for Plant 1 and 6. Within three months, huge gains have been realized. We are turning projects and quotes quicker, more accurately, and having fun doing it. Three years out of college, I am now responsible directly to the owner for over 50 employees, 25 of which are new engineers.

So what do I love about MORryde? I love being challenged everyday, because we are far from perfect. Everything can and has to be improved for us to succeed. I love identifying and solving problems. I love the people I work with, the time they have spent training and teaching me everything they know to help me succeed. I love the lack of agendas, everyone is committed to helping the team succeed, not themselves. I love the latitude to do my job, and do it well, without restrictions and red tape. I love the recognition when I succeed, yet the disappointment when I fail. I love that I can now take everything I have learned in the last 3 years and teach it to 20+ new engineers with little experience. I love knowing that next year, we are going to be doing new things that we have no knowledge of now. I love coming to “work”.

J.D. STEINMETZ
Manufacturing Engineer
Robotic Welding Supervisor

“Great people, technology, and everyday challenges make for a workplace that is very encouraging to strive for the best! Be ready to wear a few different 'hats', as you will not be sitting in a corner doing the same thing everyday. Be prepared to challenge yourself, and stand out from the crowd. Go for the company that will get you the experience you need!”

I started at Western Michigan University (WMU) in the fall of 2002. I started off focusing on the graphics and design side of engineering, but moved into manufacturing as I enjoy being involved with a project from start to finish. Picking my own brain to find better, faster, cheaper ways of doing things is a mentality I’ve had since I was a child. To put it short, I like to make things work! I received a degree titled Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MFT).

The extensive hands on training, backed by theory have given me the best preparation I can imagine for MORryde. Being a custom fabrication shop with incredible machines and technology, we are challenged on a daily basis to do something different. Having a well-rounded, hands-on background in engineering has been the key to my success thus far at MORryde. I learned about MORryde at a career fair, and it instantly hit me that this company is different and exciting. I found out very quickly that this is true.

In the nine months I’ve been here I have been involved in many different opportunities. From quoting customers for fabrication work, to prototyping hospital beds, and now supervising robotic welding, I would say it’s been very eventful so far! This job gives you so much experience in the metal fabrication world. Almost anything made of metal, we can make. That’s what gives me the drive to get up everyday, to do something new and exciting that will make a difference.

It’s the perfect job for a new engineer. Great people, technology, and everyday challenges make for a workplace that is very encouraging to strive for the best! This is one of the few jobs out there in which you will use all of your education background. Be ready to wear a few different “hats”, as you will not be sitting in a corner doing the same thing everyday. Be prepared to challenge yourself, and stand out from the crowd. Go for the company that will get you the experience you need!

KRISTEN O'HARE
Business Administration

“MORryde is a place to inspire and to be inspired, it's a place where no boundaries exist in your career path, and it's a place I love belonging to.”

I recently moved from Chicago where I left behind what I felt was a great job.  After joining MORryde's team, I now realize what the definition of a great corporation is and regret not having found them sooner.

It is inspiring to work for a company that encourages growth and offers so much opportunity for advancement!  The enthusiasm and commitment everyone shares in being able to provide the best experience and all around service for not only our customers, but fellow co-workers, is truly remarkable.

The culture here is one of cooperation, support, and teamwork which I think is rare in today’s workplace. MORryde is a place to inspire and to be inspired, it's a place where no boundaries exist in your career path, and it's a place I love belonging to. For me MORryde is the mark against which all other companies should be measured.

Information Technology

“It is this exposure to everyone that has shown me how wonderful this company, and the people who work here, is.”

I attended IUSB from 2003-2007 and received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. I heard about MORryde from Mandy Wiegand, who was already working for MORryde. She alerted me to the possible opening of a Computer Programming position during my last semester at IUSB. I applied in May and was offered the position in June. I’ve now been at MORryde for 8 months.

My primary role is application development and database administration. I create custom reporting tools for internal use by fellow employees. These reports involve the use of user interfaces that interact with a database for acquiring the necessary data sets. I studied programming in college, but since arriving at MORryde I have also been exposed to networking and systems. I now assist with these areas as well. I find myself learning new things every day.

I enjoy working at MORryde. My position allows me to visit all three MORryde sites regularly. I have been able to meet and converse with a large majority of my coworkers. It is this exposure to everyone that has shown me how wonderful this company, and the people who work here, is.

“I love the fact that MORryde really is an opportunity-driven company, just as it says. MORryde offers opportunities to its employees and customers just as much as it pursues new opportunities for its business to grow.”

I graduated from Indiana University South Bend with a Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Accounting. My professors always encouraged me to find an accounting-related internship, and while I was reluctant to leave my previous job, I decided I really did need to find an internship. I began my search online at CareerBuilder.com, and found the advertisement for MORryde International, a company of which I had never heard. They were looking for an accounting intern and seemed very flexible in accommodating a full-time student. I began my internship in June 2007, and now I am a full-time member of the Accounting Department.

My first impression of the company was that everyone had a great personality and joined in welcoming and supporting me as a new staff member. I love the fact that MORryde really is an opportunity-driven company, just as it says. MORryde offers opportunities to its employees and customers just as much as it pursues new opportunities for its business to grow.
